Since graduating from All Saints’ College in 2020, Tahlia Halley’s life has been a whirlwind of study, travel and discovery. Driven by curiosity and a love of learning, she’s spent the past five years balancing university, work and adventure.

In 2021, she began a double degree in Law and Science, majoring in Environmental Science and Biology. Now, with her Science degree complete and Law nearly finished, she reflects on how the combination has shaped her future.

“Studying both Law and Science has opened so many doors,” she says. “My background in Environmental Science has inspired me to pursue a career in New Energy and Renewable projects. It’s an exciting time to be part of the shift toward cleaner energy.”

Tahlia is proud of her role as an Undergraduate Sustainability Advisor with Laing O’Rourke on a $1.5 billion government infrastructure project. There, she helped deliver Western Australia’s first trial of HVO100 renewable diesel, reducing emissions by 7.9 tonnes of CO₂e. “It showed me how science, law and collaboration can drive real change,” she says.

Travel has also defined her journey, from Indonesia to Morocco, Vietnam to Spain and across Europe. Highlights include running with the bulls at the San Fermin Festival, surfing Morocco’s coast and conquering Vietnam’s Ha Giang Loop. “Travel has been one of the most rewarding forms of learning” she says. “It’s stressful juggling study, work and travel but it’s worth every moment.”

Tahlia also keeps a competitive edge by playing football for the Fremantle CBC woman’s team after years of netball and has completed several half marathons, she’s now training for the Busselton Marathon!.

Tahlia credits All Saints’ for nurturing her curiosity and confidence. “Teachers like Ms Schoen, Ms Kirkham, Ms Taylor and Ms Strentz always believed in me,” she says. Outdoor education camps with Mr Zaurs also left a mark; “they taught me resilience, teamwork and a love for the outdoors.”

Looking ahead, Tahlia plans to graduate, travel to France for a ski season and begin her legal career. Her dream is to combine travel and work while contributing to meaningful projects.

Tahlia’s journey is only just beginning!.
