Finding the Right Path to Academic Excellence

Congratulations to Matthew Drew (Class of 2024), who has been awarded Murdoch University's Vice Chancellor's Academic Excellence Award, recognising him as one of the top 2% of students enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program.

Matthew is currently studying a Bachelor of Information Technology, majoring in Cyber Security and Computer Science, and achieved a minimum of 15 High Distinction credit points during the review period.

What’s particularly inspiring about Matthew’s story is the pathway he took to get there. In Year 11, he commenced a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start Pre-apprenticeship), believing he wanted to become an electrician. After discovering it wasn’t the right fit for him, Matthew explored other options and, in Year 12, completed a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (Forensics) through Health Science Hub. This qualification provided direct entry to Murdoch University and set him on his current path.

Matthew’s journey is a wonderful reminder that success doesn’t always follow a straight line. Sometimes, it takes trying different opportunities, discovering what interests you and having the confidence to change direction.

We are incredibly proud of Matthew and all that he has achieved so far, and we look forward to seeing where his studies and career take him next.
